Actor Robert Downey Jr., who played Marvel’s superhero ‘Iron Man,’ is returning to the Avengers series as the character of ‘Doctor Doom,’ the ultimate villain in the Marvel universe.

 

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, announced this news on the 27th (local time) at Comic-Con in San Diego, USA.

 

 

Robert Downey Jr. appeared wearing the green suit and full-face mask symbolic of Doctor Doom.

 

When he stepped forward and removed the mask to reveal his face among about 20 people wearing olive-colored capes, a huge cheer erupted from the crowd.

 

 

Doctor Victor Von Doom is a supervillain in the Marvel universe.

 

The 5th and 6th installments of Avengers are set to be directed by the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe.

 

The Russo brothers directed Avengers: Endgame (2019).

 

Doomsday is scheduled for release in May 2026, and Secret Wars is slated for 2027.

 

Joe Russo stated, "Doctor Doom is a very complex character, and we need the world’s best actor to portray this character."

 

Robert Downey Jr. played the role of Tony Stark, the main character in Iron Man (2008), and was a key figure in the global success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

 

The Iron Man character died in Avengers: Endgame (2019).

 

 

 

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo will helm Avengers: Doomsday, which introduces the character of Doctor Doom, and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.

 

Doomsday is scheduled for release in 2026. Robert Downey Jr. appeared on the Comic-Con stage wearing the green cape and mask of Doctor Doom from the comics and said, "New mask, same task."
