Media Trial Event: Jamsil to Yangjae in Just 10 Minutes Round Trip
CEO Shin Min: "We Will Lay the Foundation for the Upcoming UAM Era by Building Infrastructure and Customer Base"
"Former US President Donald Trump, Queen Elizabeth II of the UK, and major Korean conglomerate chairmen have used this helicopter."
On the 10th, at Jamsil Helipad in Songpa-gu, Seoul, the Sikorsky S-76C++ helicopter, made by the US company Sikorsky, landed with the sound of propellers hitting the ears.
Shin Min, CEO of Mobi Aviation, emphasized the safety of the S-76C++ model by introducing its history.
Through 'VONAER,' anyone will be able to reserve and board this helicopter, not just national leaders or corporate executives.
On this day, Mobi Aviation launched its platform-based helicopter transportation service, VONAER, and held a trial event for the press.
The event included traveling by helicopter over a section of the 'VON Routine' service route (Jamsil to Incheon Airport), specifically from Jamsil to Yangjae (Meeting Square).
The distance is about 22 km by road and approximately 18 km by air.
After instructions not to approach the tail rotor, to walk towards the helicopter at a 45-degree angle from the front following staff, and that all procedures were conducted in compliance with aviation security laws, the boarding process began.
Passengers presented their ID to the guide, and their faces and boarding information were scanned via QR code.
Each passenger received a wristband and headset indicating they were VONAER passengers, with wristband colors varying by destination.
Upon sitting in the passenger seat, there was a pile of earplugs on the right side holder.
Despite the summer-like heat, the air conditioning was working in the passenger cabin.
The spacious interior allowed for 8 adults to sit with only slight shoulder contact and significant distance from the person in front.
As the helicopter took off, it quickly ascended to an altitude of 500-600 meters, with views of Lotte Tower and the Olympic Stadium outside the window.
The flight was smooth and stable, even when turning over the Yangjae Meeting Square.
Returning to Jamsil Helipad, the trial flight took just about 10 minutes.
A car journey would not have even exited Jamsil-dong in that time, especially during rush hour.
According to Mobi Aviation, the helicopter travels at a speed of 180-230 km/h, allowing it to reach Incheon Airport from Jamsil in just 20 minutes.
For urban flights like this event, the speed is relatively lower at 160 km/h.
Launching Korea's first platform-based small aircraft service, Mobi Aviation began accepting VON Routine service reservations via its app from today.
Reservations can be made for dates two weeks in advance and are confirmed for groups of 8-10 passengers for medium-sized helicopters.
The initial route is Jamsil to Incheon Airport, with a fare of 440,000 KRW per person one-way.
Additional routes such as Jamsil to Yangjae and Yeouido to Incheon Airport will be added in the future.
Mobi Aviation also introduces 'VON Tour' for tourism and 'VON Private' for charter services.
During a press conference, CEO Shin stated, "Passengers can relax in the lounge at the helipad and conveniently travel to the airport terminal using provided vehicles. We aim to offer a seamless service from the first mile to the last mile."
He added, "Unlike the US and Europe, Korea's small aircraft industry is not yet active. By building the infrastructure and customer base through helicopter services, we aim to lay the groundwork for the upcoming Urban Air Mobility (UAM) era and lead the popularization of Korean urban air services."
He also mentioned efforts to enhance operational efficiency and provide the Yeouido to Incheon Airport route for less than 300,000 KRW one-way in the future.
Measures to address operational difficulties due to weather and other variables still need to be supplemented.
The event was delayed by an hour due to the airspace being controlled for President Yoon Suk-yeol's overseas departure.
CEO Shin explained, "Flight difficulties due to weather mainly occur during the rainy season. In such cases, we plan to notify in advance and provide alternative transportation such as limousine service."
