The National Sejong Arboretum, Korea’s first urban arboretum, has officially launched its much-anticipated nighttime event, “We’re Together (at Night),” offering a unique blend of nature, art, and immersive technology for evening visitors.

Running from May 17 to October 11, this annual program invites guests to experience the arboretum in a new light—literally and figuratively—under the theme, “A warm arboretum where people and nature harmonize.”

Situated on a sprawling 65-hectare site near the Sejong Government Complex, the National Sejong Arboretum plays a central role in preserving Korea’s botanical diversity.

The facility houses approximately 1.72 million plants across 2,834 species, including around 46,000 trees.

These are arranged throughout a variety of themed spaces, such as Korea’s largest Four Seasons Conservatory, a traditional Korean garden, the Cheongryujiwon study area, and a meticulously curated bonsai garden.

Established as part of the National Arboretum Expansion Plan following the Baekdudaegan National Arboretum, the Sejong site aims to safeguard and develop the nation’s tree genetic resources in line with Korea’s various climate and vegetation zones.

Now in its fourth year, “We’re Together (at Night)” continues to evolve as a cultural and sensory celebration that brings visitors into closer connection with both nature and cutting-edge technology.

The evening program offers a variety of immersive experiences, most notably a series of mesmerizing media art shows featuring projection mapping and laser effects.

These visual displays are accompanied by augmented reality (AR) elements, developed in partnership with the Korea Garden of Communication Project, which add a layer of interactivity and storytelling to the arboretum’s natural surroundings.

A major highlight of the night program is the special exhibition housed within the Four Seasons Conservatory.

Titled “Sweet Garden: The Sweet Temptation of Plants,” the exhibition explores the botanical origins of beloved desserts and confections.

Guests can stroll through displays of more than 4,500 individual plants from 53 species, including sugarcane—the primary source of sugar, vanilla orchids known for their subtle and sweet aroma, and cacao trees, the plant behind the world’s favorite indulgence: chocolate.

In addition to the exhibitions and high-tech displays, the arboretum will also host a range of community-centered events designed to appeal to visitors of all ages.

Cultural performances, local flea markets, and “emotional lantern” rentals will enhance the nighttime atmosphere, providing a relaxing and magical experience amid the natural beauty of the gardens.

With its fusion of nature, culture, and technology, “We’re Together (at Night)” not only showcases the arboretum’s botanical treasures but also reinforces its mission of creating meaningful, accessible green spaces in the heart of Korea’s administrative city.

The program is expected to attract families, couples, and tourists looking for a one-of-a-kind evening outing in Sejong.

Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, as evening hours are limited and special events may vary by date.

Whether you’re a plant enthusiast, art lover, or simply looking for a peaceful evening stroll under the stars, the Sejong National Arboretum offers a captivating retreat where the rhythms of nature and the spark of creativity truly come together.
