Papago : Translation app
If you’re looking for better alternative, that’s more common among locals, you can try Papago.
It provides most of the language translation to Korean.
It’s from Naver, which is Korea’s largest search engine.
It’s free and it has upgraded its image translation service for three languages ― English, Chinese and Korean ― enabling users to receive a more accurate interpretation of text captured in images.
Naver Map : GPS, Navigation app (English, Japanese, Chinese)
Naver Map is a GPS and navigation app in Korea that provides rich route suggestions depending on your preferred mode of transportation.
The recommendations are more localized compared to other apps, sometimes google map doesn’t show enough information and updates.
Also you can see real-time bus location and minutes.
Subway results will have a quick overview of the number of transfers you need to take, fare costs, train timetable per day, and exit information.
The app also has a built-in subway map of Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Daejeon, which affords whole South korea, so you won’t have to download a separate one for each city.
Coupang Eats : Food Delivery app (English, Korean)
We do love delivery food, it’s fast and delicious.
While the two most popular apps for food delivery in Korea are Baemin and Yogiyo, both still don’t have an English interface.
If you want to order food fast without having to translate from Korean, download Coupang Eats and select from a variety of local restaurants.
Kakao T(taxi) : Taxi app (English, Japanese, Korean)
Kakao T is an app that lets users find and book a cab in Korea, just like Uber and Grab in other countries.
The app is very helpful on those times when hailing a cab is difficult, but just like with other online services in Korea, a local SIM card and a bank account may be required before usage.
You can either pay online or directly to the driver. However, to pay online you must have a Korean bank account, but worry not, you can just swipe right for the second option “Pay to the driver”, and click “Apply.”
Kakao Talk : Social messaging app (English, Chinese, Spanish)
Kakao Talk is one of the two most used smartphone apps in South Korea.
To reach out to classmates or coworkers in Korea you must download this app as soon as possible.
Contact your friends through Kakao talk!
Just like other social messaging platforms (such as WhatsApp or Messenger).
