Cheongju Bbangbbang Festa: A Delicious Celebration of Local Bakeries and Community Spirit
From April 18 to 24, the basement-level food hall of Hyundai Department Store’s Chungcheong branch will be filled with the warm scent of freshly baked bread and the cheerful buzz of dessert lovers.
The occasion?
The Cheongju Bbangbbang Festa—a week-long festival that shines a spotlight on Cheongju’s beloved local bakeries and dessert shops.
Organized as a celebration of Cheongju’s thriving bakery culture, this event brings together 12 well-known bakeries and dessert brands from the region.
Visitors will have the chance to sample and shop a delightful variety of sweet and savory goods, from soft breads and crisp pastries to chewy cookies and traditional Korean confections.
Among the featured vendors are Uri Bakery, famous for its handmade loaves and rustic charm; Roseyangwa, which specializes in beautiful, modern takes on classic Korean desserts; Darae Farm, known for using fresh local ingredients; Bakery Useum, offering a mix of nostalgic and innovative pastries; and Winnie Cookie, a favorite among cookie lovers.
Each brand brings its own unique flavor and story to the table, making the festival a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth or a passion for artisanal baking.
But the Cheongju Bbangbbang Festa isn’t just about indulging in delicious treats—it’s also about creating a fun and engaging experience for visitors.
The event features a stamp-collecting activity that encourages guests to explore a variety of vendors.
Shoppers who spend at least 10,000 KRW at five different booths can collect a stamp from each one.
Once all five stamps are gathered, participants will receive a small gift: a charming Bonne Maman jam and a whimsical bread-shaped balloon—a perfect souvenir from the festivities.
Beyond the sweets and games, the event carries a deeper sense of purpose. In a show of community care, leftover products from the festival will be donated to the Cheongju Sarangnanumgicho Food Bank.
These donations will support undernourished children and elderly residents living alone, ensuring that the warmth of the event extends beyond the department store walls.
The Cheongju Bbangbbang Festa is more than a food fair—it’s a heartfelt celebration of local entrepreneurship, community giving, and the simple joy of sharing good food.
Whether you’re a lifelong local or a curious visitor, the festival offers a flavorful and meaningful way to experience Cheongju’s culinary charm.
So, if you’re in the area, don’t miss this opportunity to taste, shop, and give back—all in one place. Come with friends, bring your family, and discover the sweet soul of Cheongju, one bite at a time.
