Accessible Travel Week 2025: Paving the Way for Inclusive Tourism in Korea
In an inspiring step toward making tourism truly inclusive, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has announced the return of Accessible Travel Week, scheduled to run from April 15 (Tuesday) to April 20 (Sunday), 2025.
The event will take place at the HiKR Ground in Seoul, utilizing both the first-floor outdoor yard and the fifth-floor HiKR Lounge to host various programs and activities.
The initiative aims to create meaningful travel experiences for individuals with limited mobility or other accessibility challenges.
By fostering greater public awareness around barrier-free tourism, the Ministry hopes to build a more inclusive travel environment where everyone, regardless of physical ability, can enjoy the beauty of Korea without limitations.
One of the main highlights of this year’s Accessible Travel Week is the launch of the “₩30,000 Accessible Travel” package, specifically designed for travelers who have previously faced obstacles due to mobility restrictions.
This affordable package provides access to vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts and includes “Tour Care” services — trained personnel who assist participants throughout their journey, ensuring both mobility support and personal safety.
The program is set to benefit 200 individuals from vulnerable groups, along with their companions, offering them a renewed opportunity to explore and enjoy travel with confidence.
Complementing this initiative, the Ministry will also organize a special “Sharing Trip” for 200 people with physical, visual, or developmental disabilities.
This journey will take participants to various accessible tourist destinations across Korea, where they can engage in specially designed, barrier-free activities.
Highlights include the chance to experience a "King Canoe" ride while comfortably remaining in wheelchairs, showcasing how innovative programs can broaden the horizons of accessible tourism.
Further expanding the impact of Accessible Travel Week, seventeen companies and organizations from across the country are joining forces to support the cause.
This nationwide collaboration includes tourist attractions, nearby restaurants, shopping venues, and travel agencies, all of which will offer exclusive perks such as discounted admission, complimentary rental of assistive devices, and other traveler-friendly services designed to ease the journey for those with disabilities.
In addition to transportation and activities, accommodations have also been thoughtfully addressed.
The Ministry, in partnership with Nol Universe, is launching the “Hotels for All Campaign.” Through the popular travel platform Yanolja, travelers will be able to effortlessly search for and reserve accessible rooms at 103 participating hotels.
This partnership aims to simplify the booking process and provide peace of mind for travelers looking for accommodations that cater to their specific accessibility needs.
With Accessible Travel Week 2025, Korea takes a significant step forward in its commitment to inclusivity and equal access.
By combining practical support with innovative experiences and a broad coalition of industry partners, the initiative sets a strong example of how tourism can and should be an enjoyable experience for everyone.
As the event draws near, excitement continues to build among travelers and advocates alike, with hopes that this initiative will inspire lasting changes in Korea’s tourism landscape — creating a future where accessible travel is not the exception, but the standard.
