The Korean Staring Contest Competition, also known as the "Mung-Ddaeri" Competition, is an annual event where participants compete to see who can stare at a designated target for the longest amount of time without blinking or looking away.

The competition is open to people of all ages and genders, and it has gained popularity in recent years as a unique and entertaining form of competition.

Participants are required to maintain eye contact with the designated target, which is often a picture or a video on a screen, without any distractions or interruptions.

The competition can last for hours, and participants are allowed to take short breaks for hydration and rest.

The Korean Staring Contest Competition has become a popular event not only in Korea but also around the world, with participants from different countries competing for the title of the ultimate "Mung-Ddaeri" champion.

It is a unique and exciting way to showcase focus, endurance, and mental fortitude.

On the Space-out website it says,

" This is a massive performance visually juxtapose people who do nothing and those who are very busy at work in a same city.

Participants are considered as performers who deliver the idea that doing nothing is valuable.

Construction of the competition was drived from sports game, therefore, winner was awarded for audiences' vote and heart rate. "

Also it says that meaning of this competition is

People living in a busy city feel anxious when they do nothing.

This competition was to ‘overcome’ the anxiousness of the people when they are together.

People these days work very hard and they deserve to enjoy small luxuries like buying a new clothes or having a cup of nice coffee. But they cannot enjoy enough free time, as a new heavy workload is waiting for them.

If You are the only one who does nothing, it will make you very nervous.

So I thought I would not be nervous anymore, if I gather people and do nothing/space out with everyone together.

Then the space where I am will be full of people who do space out.

Also, on the website the purpose of this competition is :

The Space-out competition aims to produce a group of people spacing out in a busy city.

It means to juxtapose two groups visually. One is to lead busy lives and the other one is to do nothing in a busy city.

Traditionally, there has been a conception that spacing-out is kind of a waste of time.

However, this misconception needs to change and this artwork contributes to the change.

In addition, this format of competition makes the performance purpose-oriented, so that the activity of spacing out acquires a valuable meaning.
