As the second palace of the ‘Joseon(조선)’ Dynasty built in 1405, Changdeokgung served as the royal residence for the longest period. In 1997, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site for its great preservation of tradition, culture and history. The buildings were positioned in accord with the natural terrain and display the atypical beauty of Korean traditional architecture. At the palace’s Huwon Garden (also called Secret Garden), which is a good representation of traditional Korean gardening, you can see and enjoy the true beauty of nature.

Founded in 1543, it was the first royal convent Confucian academy to receive names, servants, and books from the king. The building is located between Sobaeksan Mountain and Jukcheon Stream, so the surrounding scenery is outstanding. The buildings are arranged irregularly in harmony with the natural scenery. On the way to the monastery, visitors can see a magnificent pine forest and an elegant yet understated structure that reflects the spirit of Confucian scholars who emphasize integrity and dignity.

The walls of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress remain the same as the original, which was built 200 years ago. The Suwon River, which used to flow through the Buksumun Gate (or Hwahongmun Gate) floodgate, still flows through the floodgate, and roads in the past are still used as an important part of Suwon's road network. The construction of the fortress was motivated by political and economic purposes, not military purposes, and by the king's filial piety to his father. Therefore, this fortress can be said to symbolize "hyo," a part of East Asian philosophy, so it has spiritual and philosophical values in addition to cultural ones.
