Have you heard about Nori놀이?
It is a word which defines a Game of a Play in Korean.
Maybe you’ve already seen some of them through Squid game, they used a lot of sources from traditional games in South Korea.
Now a days it is hardly to see the kids playing Nori but each of Nori has it’s own rules and quality, why don’t we try this games on the upcoming Seollal?
Let’s find out!
Yut Nori is traditionally a family Korean indoor game between two teams.
It’s also well known for a game in the Lunar New Year’s Day(Seollal /설날).
With 4wooden sticks named Yut윷, we roll this sticks like a dice.
The rules are simple, both teams should progress their piece following the route and return back to starting point.
Instead of soccer ball we used to use Jegi in this game.
Jegi has a round coin in the middle wrapped with clothes or hanji(traditional Korean paper), it reminds us a shuttlecock. The goal of the game is super simple.
Players must kick and juggle a jegi with their feet and making as many points as possible without jegi falling down to the ground.
Gonggi Nori is one of the most popular children game in Korea.
Between the class at the break time me and my friends sit down on the floor and we played Gonggi nori every day.
Gonggi is a small pebble and we use 5 small coloured pebbles in this game.
We throw the pebbles in the air and every stage we need to catch more pebbles.
It’s easy to carry, instead of western card game, we carried our own Gonggi in our pockets.
Neolttwigi is a seesaw game.
Nowadays, it is often performed as a event during the Traditional Holidays like Chuseok and Dano.
