The critically acclaimed South Korean film Inside Men (2015) is set to be reimagined as a series, with veteran actor Song Kang-ho taking on a leading role.
Hive Media Corp, the production company behind the project, announced on the 12th that they are preparing to begin filming for the new series adaptation of Inside Men (working title) next year.
The original Inside Men, directed by Woo Min-ho and based on Yoon Tae-ho's webtoon The Insiders, made waves for its hard-hitting portrayal of corruption within South Korea’s political, media, and business circles.
With an intricate narrative that delved into the power struggles of the 1980s and 1990s, the movie followed Ahn Sang-goo (played by Lee Byung-hun), a disgraced political fixer who seeks revenge after being betrayed by those in power.
The ambitious prosecutor Woo Jang-hoon (Cho Seung-woo) aids in his pursuit, uncovering the dark ties between politicians, corporations, and the media.
The film received widespread acclaim for its sharp critique of societal corruption, strong performances, and gripping storyline.
It earned several prestigious awards, including Best Picture at both the Grand Bell Awards and the Blue Dragon Film Awards, solidifying its place as a landmark in Korean cinema.
In the series adaptation, Song Kang-ho, one of South Korea’s most celebrated actors, will step into the role of Lee Kang-hee, a character previously portrayed by Baek Yoon-sik in the original film.
Lee Kang-hee is a powerful and manipulative figure, pulling the strings behind the scenes to influence the nation's political and business landscape.
Song's portrayal of this character is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the series, offering a new perspective on the power struggles and moral compromises at the heart of the story.
This marks another exciting project for Song Kang-ho, who has garnered international recognition for his roles in films such as Parasite and Memories of Murder.
His involvement in Inside Men adds significant weight to the project, building anticipation for the series among fans of both the actor and the original film.
The new adaptation aims to explore in even greater detail the events and power struggles of South Korea’s recent history, with a focus on the 1980s and 1990s.
By weaving in real-life events and historical figures, the series promises a deeply engaging and complex narrative that builds on the film’s foundation.
Fans of the original Inside Men and newcomers alike can expect an intense, high-stakes drama that exposes the dark underbelly of power and corruption.
With a star-studded cast and a storyline rooted in political intrigue, the series is poised to captivate audiences once again.
As production gears up, the series is set to begin filming next year, with further casting announcements and details expected in the coming months.
