Hello, everyone! Today, We are going to explain Seoul's transfer system to help you navigate public transportation to get to your univ :)
In Seoul, we have a fantastic system that allows you to transfer between different modes of public transportation without paying an extra fare.
This system is called the T-money system.
With T-money, when you use your card to board a bus or the subway, you have up to 30 minutes to transfer to another bus or subway line without paying again.
In Seoul, we have a convenient system that allows passengers to transfer between different modes of public transportation without paying an additional fare.
This means you can seamlessly switch between the subway, buses, and even some designated public bicycles or taxis within a certain time frame.
It's a great way to travel around the city efficiently and economically.
Seoul's public transportation transfer system, known as the T-money system, allows commuters to transfer between various modes of transportation without incurring an additional charge for up to 30 minutes.
This means that if you swipe your T-money card when boarding the subway or a bus, you can transfer to another subway line or bus route within 30 minutes without paying extra.
Additionally, the transfer system extends to certain designated public bicycles and taxis, further enhancing the convenience of getting around the city.
To benefit from this system, you'll need to obtain a T-money card, which can be purchased at most convenience stores and subway stations.
Once you have your card, simply tap it on the card reader when entering and exiting subway stations or boarding buses to pay for your fare.
The system automatically calculates any applicable transfer discounts within the 30-minute window.
Overall, the transfer system not only saves commuters money but also streamlines travel within Seoul, making it easier to navigate the city's extensive public transportation network.
Here explain the transfer system regulated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government for using public transportation to get to school.
Please keep this in mind!
The Seoul Capital Area Integrated Transfer Discount System is a system that integrates fares for public transportation in the Seoul capital area, imposing fares proportionate to the distance traveled regardless of the mode of transportation.
Since July 2004, starting with the integrated transfer discount system between Seoul buses and the metropolitan subway, and subsequently including Gyeonggi buses in 2007, Gyeonggi express buses in 2008, Incheon buses in 2009, and later the metropolitan subway lines opened for service, the integrated transfer discount system has been expanding.
Eligible modes of transportation include:
Seoul buses (regular, circular, express, village)
Incheon buses (regular, seat, express)
Gyeonggi buses (regular, seat, direct seat, village)
Metropolitan subways (Seoul Metro, Korail, Incheon Transit Corporation, Seoul Metro Line 9 Phase 1, Seoul Metro Line 9 Phase 2/3 operated by Seoul Metro, Airport Railroad, Sinbundang Line, Gyeonggi Line, U Line, Everline, Gimpo Gold Line)
Fare for transfer passage:
Within the base distance (10km, 30km for express buses), the basic fare is charged, and an additional fee of 100 won per 5km (80 won for teenagers, 50 won for children) is charged for each additional distance.
Fare for single passage:
Seoul city and village buses: Only the basic fare is charged (single fare system).
Gyeonggi buses: Mostly distance-proportional fares are charged, with only the basic fare charged for some city, seat, direct seat, and village buses.
Incheon buses: Only the basic fare is charged for regular buses, while distance-proportional fares are charged for seat and express buses.
Metropolitan subways: The basic fare (within 10km) is charged for distances up to 10km, and an additional fee of 100 won per 5km (50km or less) is charged for distances over 10km (an additional fee of 100 won per 8km is charged for distances over 50km).
How to use the transfer discount:
The transportation card must be touched to the card reader when boarding and alighting.
For transfer passengers receiving the transfer discount, if the transportation card is not touched when alighting from the last transportation mode, an additional fee will be charged.
If alighting without tagging, the transfer discount will not be applied to the next boarding, and the unpaid basic fare amount will be charged as a single use fare.
The transfer discount benefit applies for up to 5 transfers and 4 transfers of 5 modes of transportation.
Transfer validity period is within 30 minutes after alighting (within 60 minutes from 21:00 to 07:00 the next day).
Please note that the transfer validity period is based on the boarding time of the subsequent mode of transportation.
The transfer validity period with the previous mode of transportation is applied only when boarding the subsequent mode of transportation before 07:00.
Transfer discount is not applicable for transfers between the same route and same vehicle.
The transfer discount is applicable only when the same group of people travel together to the same destination.
Maximum usage time for each mode of public transportation (basic fare recharged if exceeded):
Subway: 5 hours
City buses: 5 hours
Village buses: 1 hour
