The 'Thousand Won Breakfast' initiative conducted by universities offers students affordable and nutritious morning meals.
This program aims to meet the demand for inexpensive meal options for students while promoting healthy eating habits and enhancing academic performance.
By providing economical benefits to students and encouraging healthy eating habits, these programs contribute to improved academic performance and well-being within the university community.
For this year, the number of universities participating in the '1000-won Breakfast' program, which provides healthy morning meals to students for only 1000 won, has increased to 186 schools.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 26th that they have selected 186 universities to participate in the 1000-won Breakfast' program this year.
Also, The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that it will allocate 4.85 billion won ($3.6 million) to support universities' 1,000-won breakfast initiatives this year, marking a 94 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The government provides financial support ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 won per meal, with students contributing 1,000 won.
Universities cover the remaining costs through subsidies.
With the expanded budget, approximately 4.5 million university students will have access to the 1,000-won meal this year, marking a 93 percent increase compared to the previous year.
"The expansion of the program is part of the government's efforts to help students feel less burdened by food costs amid high prices, allowing them to have a warm and hearty meal," Jeon Han-young, head of the ministry's food grain policy bureau, said.
"We hope students can grow healthy habits of having breakfast every day, along with helping to increase rice consumption and maintain a stable supply and demand system for rice."
Why not take advantage of this government-supported opportunity and join in on the 1,000-won breakfast, resuming from March 4th?
It's more than just a budget-friendly meal option; it's a chance to promote healthier eating habits within our university community.
So, save the date and start your day off right with a nutritious and affordable breakfast!
