The railway union went on a total strike, demanding changes such as altering the destination of the recently expanded Busan to Seoul KTX line to SuSeo Station, integrated operations of KTX and SRT high-speed trains, connecting operations between KTX and SRT, and implementing a 4-shift, 2-shift system, starting on the 1st of last month.

 

 

 

On the 16th, the third day of the nationwide railway union strike, train service reduction continues.

 

Citizen inconvenience due to the strike is occurring at various locations, including Seoul Station and Busan Station.

KORAIL (Korea Railroad Corporation) has added 13 additional runs of the Gyeongbu Line KTX trains to Sunday, which were not originally scheduled, but there is still a shortage of trains.

 

In particular, the freight train service has dropped significantly to about 33% of its normal level.

However, labor and management are still at odds.

 

KORAIL stated that the union's demand to change the final destination of the KTX train to SuSeo goes against the government's policy to maintain a competitive system and is difficult to accept.

 

 

 

In response, the railway union maintains a firm stance, stating that if their demands are not met, they have no choice but to proceed with a second total strike.

After the strike, KTX and Seoul Metro Lines 1, 3, and 4 are operating with reduced services.

 

According to the official government figures as of 3:00 PM on 14th, the train operation rates are as follows : KTX at 76.4%, and the Seoul Metropolitan Subway at 83%.
