Mullae-dong in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, is a place where a village was formed in the 1930s with the establishment of textile factories.
In the 1970s and 1980s, it thrived as a representative steel industry complex.
After the 1990s, it entered a period of decline, with the sound of metal smelting that once filled the alleys gradually fading away and losing its vitality.
The dining district in Mullae-dong is divided starting from the Mullae Park intersection near the Mullae Art Village.
The area connecting the Art Village and the Mullae-dong intersection forms a more vibrant alley market.
The streets are lined with restaurants, and between the densely packed ironworks across the street, restaurants and cafes fill the empty spaces.
1. Segye Dakjip 세계닭집
Segye Dakjip is a place opened by three colleagues from GFFG, a food service company famous for the burger brand Downtowner and the donut brand Knotted, which have taken over the hotspots.
The concept of the space captures the atmosphere of a traditional shop, a common taste shared by the founders, and offers familiar yet skillful flavors.
This, combined with a unique character that attracts a young clientele specifically coming to the Mullae-dong area, makes it a comfortable place to enjoy.
The main menu features **dakgangjeong** (sweet and spicy Korean fried chicken), which is a soul food for Koreans that can be enjoyed as a bite-sized snack.
They recognized the competitiveness of **dakgangjeong**, which allows for a variety of seasonings and ingredients to be applied.
2. Youngil Bunsik 영일분식
Youngil Bunsik has been providing hearty meals to those passing through the ironworks alley for over 50 years.
The signature dish is **kalbibim-guksu**, which consists of roughly made **kalguksu** (knife-cut noodles) mixed with a sweet and tangy sauce and crunchy vegetables.
While it may seem simple, the refreshing taste of the seasoning is special.
After gaining fame through television broadcasts, many customers now visit specifically for this dish, and you can see the noodles being constantly cooked in one corner of the restaurant.
The accompanying buckwheat dumplings are a must-try, known for their generous portions and reasonable price.
3. Old Mullae 올드문래
This craft beer pub, remodeled from a wooden factory built during the Japanese colonial period, features a unique interior and high ceilings.
It has been present since the early days of the boom in Mullae-dong's dining district, maintaining its distinctive charm.
Operating as a café during the day and a craft beer pub after 5 p.m., it is notably large compared to the mostly smaller establishments in Mullae-dong.
The pub offers a wide variety of domestic and international craft beers, and the signature platter, which includes sausages, chicken wings, french fries, and nachos, is a popular choice for patrons.
