From April 26th to May 1st, a special exhibition of Korean ceramics and paintings, featuring treasure-class items such as a white porcelain cloud dragon motif jar, a blue and white porcelain plum blossom design vase, and a pair of lacquer boxes with pine tree and crane designs, will be held at the Insa Art Center in Insa-dong, Seoul.
Hosted by the Jongno branch of the Korea Fine Arts Association (President Yoon Jong-il), this exhibition, which is the largest of its kind in Korea, involves participation from over 100 antique stores in Insa-dong, including Tongin Store(통인가게), Gonghwangarang(공화랑), Dongsanbang(동산방), MyArtAuction(마이아트옥션), Daboseong(다보성), and I-Auction(아이옥션).
President Yoon Jong-il, who prepared for the exhibition, said, "The focus of this exhibition is on selecting works that will fit well with our current lives," and emphasized that "the beauty of Korean art is shining even brighter in modern times."
The works exhibited include over 300 ceramics and 100 paintings, and the organizers stated that they have put together a collection that can meet diverse demands from specialized collectors to younger generations, with a focus on quality rather than quantity, and that works that do not meet their standards have been excluded from the exhibition.
The ceramic works that caught the eye in this exhibition, particularly, are the "White Porcelain Blue Cloud Dragon Jar" and the "Celadon Lotus Pattern Ewer with Lid."
The "White Porcelain Blue Cloud Dragon Jar" stands at a height of 41 cm and features a rare pattern of a dragon ascending through the clouds.
The clouds emit a mystical energy that enhances the dragon's appearance, and the jar is also known as the "White Porcelain Spiritual Energy Dragon Jar.
" The "Celadon Lotus Pattern Ewer with Lid" was made during the heyday of the Goryeo Dynasty in the 12th century.
This ceramic piece features an elaborate lotus pattern carved in relief and has a lid, which is a rarity among ewers.
Among the traditional Korean paintings on display, the "Pine Trees and Rabbits" by Heo Baekryeong, one of the three greatest painters of the Joseon Dynasty, stands out.
The harmonious combination of a large, majestic pine tree that has aged over time and two rabbits relaxing underneath it is impressive.
In addition, various antique items that are well-suited as interior or decorative objects are also showcased.
During the exhibition period, there will also be a book signing event for "A Special Invitation from an Ordinary Collector."
This steady seller features the story of Choi Philgyu, who has collected Korean ceramics and wooden furniture with passion for over 30 years.
Admission to the exhibition is free.
