Hello, everyone!
Did you know that today is March 3rd, and in Korea, it's known as Samgyeopsal Day 삼겹살데이?
Samgyeopsal Day is a playful term referring to March 3rd, where people celebrate by enjoying grilled pork belly.
The origins of Samgyeopsal Day date back to the cooperative effort of the livestock industry to boost income for pig farmers.
They designated a day with triple threes, or '삼삼데이' (sam-sam-dei), to be a day for enjoying samgyeopsal.
To celebrate Samgyeopsal Day, I want to introduce four popular samgyeopsal restaurants in Seoul:
1. Haengjin 행진
2. Chuok-ui Yeontan-gui 추억의 연탄구이
3. High Pork 하이포크
4. Ganghwa Tongtong Saeng Gogi 강화통통생고기
These places are known for their delicious samgyeopsal, offering a variety of flavors and experiences.
Enjoy Samgyeopsal Day and explore these fantastic samgyeopsal restaurants in Seoul!
Haengjin 행진
Address : 45 World Cup-ro, Mapogu, Seoul (1st and 2nd floor)
'Haengjin' is a frozen pork belly restaurant located in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Unlike typical frozen pork belly, the owner here personally quick-freezes fresh pork belly, then cuts and sells it.
So, it's completely different from the frozen pork belly you might find in supermarkets!
The restaurant has an atmosphere reminiscent of old memories, with old songs playing, and they use dishes and utensils that evoke a sense of vintage Korea.
The side dishes are delicious, especially the pickled fish sauce and sliced green onions, which are specialties of this restaurant.
They also serve a fantastic egg roll, and when grilled together with the pork belly, it adds another layer of flavor.
If you enjoy soybean paste stew, I highly recommend ordering it along with your meal!
Chuok-ui Yeontan-gui 추억의 연탄구이
Address : 228-2, Noksapyeong-daero, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
Located in Itaewon's Kyunglidan-gil, "Chuok-ui Yeontan-gui 추억의 연탄구이 " is a place where you can enjoy delicious pork belly grilled over charcoal.
The homemade side dishes are always tasty, and they offer really fresh Seonji Soup 선지국 (Korean blood cake soup) as a complimentary service!
Oh! They also serve pig skin as a complimentary dish! Enjoy grilling and eating it deliciously.
Eating pork belly with Seonji Soup makes you naturally think of soju.
If you ask for more Seonji Soup, they'll give you more for free :)
If you ever visit Itaewon, make sure to stop by!
High Pork 하이포크
Address : 22, Seobinggo-ro 95-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
Located in Bogwang-dong, Yongsan-gu, "High Pork 하이포크 (대성정육식당)" is well known as a favorite dining spot of Big Bang's G-Dragon.
The pork belly here is truly delicious, and they serve aged kimchi as well.
Whether you eat it as is or grill it along with the meat, the aged kimchi is exceptionally tasty!
The side dishes served as standard are like homemade Korean dishes. Imagine wrapping the delicious fresh pork belly and kimchi together... it must be truly delicious, right?
Many celebrities also visit, so you should definitely stop by and enjoy a tasty meal!
Ganghwa Tongtong Saeng Gogi 강화통통생고기
Address : 90, Donggyo-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul
Lastly, let me introduce you to Ganghwa Tongtong Saeng Gogi 강화통통생고기 !
This place is renowned for its signature menu, samgyeopsal, where aged meat is freshly prepared.
The taste is exceptional when you grill the pork belly over charcoal!
Dip it in the accompanying sauce, Galchi Sotjeot 갈치속젓, and you'll experience the true essence of Korean flavors.
Try wrapping the grilled pork belly in fresh lettuce with various side dishes!
To enhance your dining experience, order a bowl of cold noodles to enjoy alongside the meat.
Don't forget to savor the complimentary steamed egg and soybean paste stew that come as part of the service.
