Azalea is expected to have a large regional difference, starting with flowers blooming in Jeju island on the 13th, Hwaaksan(화악산) Mountain in Gangwon(강원도) Province and Sobaeksan(소백산) Mountain in Chungbuk(충청북도) Province blooming in May.

 

The Korea Forest Service released a forecast map for spring flowering in 2023 of Korea's major forests on the 3rd to help people preparing to go out as the last cold snap begins and spring approaches.

 

Spring flower prediction maps are distributed throughout Korea and are designed for for forsythia and trees that grow naturally in the forest, such as azaleas and cherry trees, which are the first to notify spring news.

 

This spring flowering prediction was jointly conducted by the Korea Forest Service's National Arboretum(산림청 국립수목원), the National Forest Research Institute(국립산림과학원), and nine local public arboretums, with 15 forest areas and nine national arboretums by region.

 

Forsythia is expected to bloom starting from southern regions and Jeju Island, including Wando(완도) Arboretum on the 20th, Gyeongnam(경상남도) Province Arboretum on the 23rd, and Halla(한라) Arboretum on the 23rd.

 

Cherry trees are expected to bloom somewhat late, such as April 1 in Jeju and April 30 in Gwangdeoksan(광덕산) Mountain in Gangwon Province.

 

Kim Ki-hyun, head of the forest environment protection division, said, "Based on field data and mountain weather data observed around Korea's representative trees, we plan to improve the accuracy of the forest area flower prediction model and continue to provide useful services for people's lives."
