According to the Presidential Office on the 25th, President Yoon has received a proposal to designate October 2nd as a temporary public holiday and has instructed for a positive review of the proposal.

If October 2nd is designated as a temporary public holiday, it will create a 6-day holiday period from September 28th, the first day of the Chuseok holiday, to October 3rd, National Foundation Day.

Furthermore, this will be the first  alternative holiday designated by President Yoon since taking office.

"추석" (Chuseok) is a major traditional Korean holiday that is often referred to as Korean Thanksgiving Day.

It is one of the most important holidays in South Korea and is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, which usually falls in September or October in the Gregorian calendar..

Chuseok is also a time when people take a break from their work and spend time with their families, similar to how Thanksgiving is celebrated in other cultures.

It's a time of joy, gratitude, and cultural reflection for the Korean people.

"개천절" (Gaecheonjeol), also known as National Foundation Day, is a South Korean national holiday that commemorates the legendary founding of the first Korean state, Gojoseon, by Dangun, the legendary founder of Korea.

The holiday falls on October 3rd every year in South Korea.

According to Korean mythology, Dangun, the son of Hwanung (a divine being), established the kingdom of Gojoseon on the 3rd day of the 10th month of the lunar calendar in the year 2333 BCE.

Gaecheonjeol celebrates this foundation myth and is seen as a way to honor Korea's history and culture.

If you were given a 6-day holiday, what would you like to do in Korea?

It's expected that many people would use this rare extended break to visit their hometowns or travel.

Just imagining it brings joy! What are your thoughts?
