The Forest of Light at Sajik Park

 

One of the festival’s standout attractions is the "Forest of Light," located in Sajik Park.

 

Opened in late November last year, this unique media art installation is part of the UNESCO Creative Belt Zone 3.

 

The park combines historical landmarks, public art, and cutting-edge media installations to create an immersive experience.

 

By day, visitors can explore the historical Sajik Tower and Sajik Altar, while at night, the park transforms into a mesmerizing spectacle of lights.

Yangnim & Christmas Cultural Festival

 

For a cultural twist on holiday celebrations, the Yangnim & Christmas Cultural Festival runs through December 31 in Yangnim-dong.

 

Known for its historical significance as the birthplace of Christianity in Gwangju, the district is adorned with festive decorations and scenic photo zones.

 

The Yangnim Five-Way Intersection features a grand Christmas tree, while a newly introduced "Street of Light" connects key landmarks such as the Yangnim Art Museum, Holly Tree, and Yangnim Hill Missionary Cemetery.

 

Visitors can participate in various events, including a candlelight parade, carol performances, and the Santa Festa craft street.

The Belt of Light Streets

 

From December 18 through February 2024, the Belt of Light Streets will connect Yangnim-dong, the May 18 Democracy Plaza, and Dongmyeong-dong.

 

These streets will feature elaborate light displays and artistic installations.

 

The Asia Food and Culture District will showcase colorful street illuminations, while the May 18 Democracy Plaza will host media art features such as the Light Fortress, Light Fountain, and Music Fountain.

 

Geumnam-ro and the surrounding areas, including the ACC (Asia Culture Center), will be adorned with vibrant lights, adding to the festive atmosphere.

 

A highlight of this stretch is the Night Festival at the Old City Hall, held on December 20–21.
