South Korea Shines at the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games:

Record Gold Medals and Historic Figure Skating Triumph

At the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games, South Korea delivered an outstanding performance, securing a total of 16 gold, 15 silver, and 14 bronze medals, matching their previous record for the highest number of gold medals achieved at the 2017 Sapporo Games.

This impressive haul solidified their position as the second-ranked nation in the overall medal standings.

A significant highlight of South Korea's success was their dominance in figure skating.

On February 13, Cha Jun-hwan clinched the gold medal in the men's singles event, outperforming Japan's Kagiyama Yuma, who took silver, and Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov, who earned bronze.

In the women's singles, Kim Chae-yeon delivered a stunning performance to secure the gold, surpassing Japan's three-time world champion Sakamoto Kaori, who settled for silver, while another Japanese skater, Yoshida Hana, claimed bronze.

This marked the first time South Korea swept both the men's and women's singles figure skating gold medals at the Asian Winter Games.

In addition to their figure skating triumphs, South Korea's women's curling team made history by winning the gold medal.

The team, consisting of skip Kim Eun-ji, third Kim Min-ji, second Kim Su-ji, lead Seol Ye-eun, and fifth Seol Ye-ji, delivered a flawless performance throughout the tournament.

They dominated the round-robin stage with an 8-0 record and secured a decisive 7-2 victory over the host nation, China, in the final.

This victory marked South Korea's first women's curling gold at the Asian Winter Games since the 2007 Changchun Games.

The men's curling team also showcased commendable skill, advancing to the final against a formidable Philippine team composed of naturalized players from Switzerland.

Despite a hard-fought match, the South Korean men secured the silver medal after a 3-5 defeat.

In men's ice hockey, South Korea rebounded from a semifinal loss to Japan by defeating China 5-2 in the bronze medal match, ensuring their fourth consecutive podium finish since the 2007 Changchun Games.

South Korea's performance exceeded pre-Games expectations, as the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee had initially set a target of 11 gold medals.

The athletes' exceptional achievements not only surpassed this goal but also reinforced the nation's status as a dominant force in winter sports within Asia.

The 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games concluded on February 14, with China leading the medal table, followed by South Korea in second place, and Japan securing third.

The event showcased remarkable athleticism and competitiveness, setting the stage for future international winter sports competitions.
