TtoBom Myeoncheon: A New Spring Festival Awakens in Dangjin

This April, Dangjin in Chungcheongnam-do is set to welcome visitors to its inaugural major cultural and tourism event: TtoBom Myeoncheon.

Hosted at the historic Myeoncheon Eupseong fortress, the festival will take place over two days, April 5–6, promising an immersive experience that fuses local traditions with diverse artistic expressions.

Aptly named "TtoBom Myeoncheon," meaning "spring again in Myeoncheon," the event symbolizes renewal and cultural revival, with aspirations to become a staple in Dangjin’s festival calendar.

This fresh approach ensures a dynamic environment where tradition meets contemporary creativity.

Unlike conventional local events, TtoBom Myeoncheon boasts an exceptional lineup of musicians, street performers, and interactive programs, making it a must-visit occasion for both locals and tourists.

Star-Studded Musical Lineup

Music lovers will find much to enjoy, as the festival hosts an impressive roster of performers across two days.

On April 5, the event opens with a unique collaboration between Bada, the beloved former S.E.S. member, and acclaimed guitarist Jo Eung-min.

Other notable acts gracing the stage that day include the jazz ensemble ZIP4, mixed rock group Springs, the Brazilian-inspired RUST Trio, jazz vocalist Moon Mihyang Trio, and talented pianists Ko Heean and Heo Daewook.

April 6 continues the musical excitement with performances by renowned indie-folk artist 10CM, ska and reggae fusion band Kingston Rudieska, award-winning group Bando, and the energetic alternative rock act Yangchigi Boy Scouts.

This eclectic lineup ensures that festivalgoers will experience a broad spectrum of musical styles, making for a vibrant and engaging atmosphere.

Street Performances and Interactive Art

Beyond the main stage, TtoBom Myeoncheon transforms the historic fortress into a living, breathing theater.

Ten street performance groups will captivate audiences with original works, blending storytelling, music, and movement.

Highlights include Haewon, a performance that merges circus arts with elements of traditional shamanism, From Osam, which delivers an environmental message through creative staging, and Freedom of Two Feet, a mobile and interactive show that encourages audience participation.

A particular highlight is the Alice Project parade, an inventive reimagining of the classic Alice in Wonderland, which will delight attendees on both festival days at 2:30 p.m.

The parade will be accompanied by a lively street jazz performance from ZIP4, adding to the festival’s immersive charm.

Night Market and Local Flavors

One of the most anticipated features of TtoBom Myeoncheon is its special night market, open on April 5 from 7 p.m. to midnight.

This vibrant marketplace combines traditional Korean liquors from local breweries with DJ performances, creating a unique blend of heritage and contemporary nightlife.

Visitors can sample exquisite drinks while enjoying a lively social setting under the night sky.

Food enthusiasts will have plenty to explore as well.

The festival’s local food market showcases the rich agricultural offerings of the region, including Haenaru rice cakes, locally grown apples, asparagus, and shiitake mushrooms.

This gastronomic experience ensures that attendees not only enjoy great entertainment but also savor the authentic flavors of Dangjin.

Visitors can take part in face painting, traditional mask play, blacksmithing, and martial arts demonstrations, offering a hands-on way to connect with Korea’s rich cultural heritage.

A Fully Accessible and Free Event

One of the most attractive aspects of TtoBom Myeoncheon is that all performances, activities, and experiences are completely free.

To ensure easy access, the festival will operate shuttle buses between Dangjin Terminal, the arts center, and the festival venue, making it convenient for visitors from near and far.

With its ambitious programming and diverse lineup, TtoBom Myeoncheon is poised to establish itself as a key cultural festival in Korea.
