The basic fare for medium-sized taxis in Seoul will increase by 1,000 won from 3,800 won to 4,800 won from February 1.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is applying the rate increase plan decided last year this time.

In addition to the recent sharp rise in heating costs, it is expected that the price increase felt by citizens will be large.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is also considering raising subway and bus fares.

The basic rate is 26% higher than before, but the actual rate is higher.

The distance for which only the basic fare is charged will be reduced from 2 km to 1.6 km. The surcharge starts accruing sooner.

In addition, the speed at which the extra charge on the “meter” rises faster.

This is because the rate per distance changes from 100 won per 132m to 100 won per 131m, and the hourly rate changes from 100 won per 31 seconds to 100 won per 30 seconds.

Previously, in December of last year, late-night surcharges for taxis rose first, and this time, the overall taxi fare system will be reformed.

For example, if you travel about 10 km from Jonggak Station to Gangnam Station during the late night hours from February, you will have to pay 17,700 won for a taxi.

It is 1900 won (12.0%) higher than the current (15,800 won). Compared to 13,700 won before December of last year, before the late-night surcharge was raised, this is an increase of 4,000 won (29.2%).

When traveling about 7km from Jonggak Station to Sinsa Station during the daytime (4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.), the taxi fare used to be 9,600 won, but from February, you have to pay 11,000 won, an increase of 1400 won (14.6%).
