Surviving as a Vegetarian

Top 5 Vegetarian Restaurants in Korea

Vegetarians or vegans coming to Korea might be surprised by the limited choices available.

While interest in vegetarianism and veganism is growing in Korea, it is still a minority practice.

So, why do many Koreans not follow a vegetarian lifestyle?

When asked, 51% of 835 respondents who are not vegetarians or do not advocate vegetarianism mentioned that they do not feel the need (53%) or think that relying solely on vegetarianism is not good for health (51%).

Next, we looked at the overall perception of vegetarianism.

About 40% agreed with the statement "vegetarian food is generally tasteless," while 57% disagreed.

More than half of the respondents disagreed with the notion that vegetarian food lacks flavor.

However, 63% expressed the belief that it is difficult to obtain all the necessary nutrients through a vegetarian diet.

While acknowledging that vegetarian food is not tasteless, there is a perception that it may be challenging to achieve a balanced nutrient intake solely through vegetarianism.
