The Korea Meteorological Administration issued cold wave warnings in southern Gangwon Province at 10 a.m. and cold wave warnings in inland areas such as Seoul (southeast, northeast, northwest), Daejeon, Gwangju, Daegu, and Sejong.

 

The cold wave warning will take effect at 9 p.m.The special cold wave warning in mid-March is the first in three years since March 13-14, 2020.

 

The reason why the cold wave warning was issued in March is that cold air is expected to flow in from the northwest from the afternoon of the day, and the temperature is expected to drop sharply.

On the morning of the 13th, Monday, the lowest temperature will be between minus 8 degrees Celsius and 2 degrees Celsius, which will be more than 10 degrees lower than the day (4-13 degrees Celsius).

 

The cold wave warning (warning) is issued not only when the morning low is below -12 degrees for more than two days, but also when the morning low is expected to fall more than 15 degrees (10 degrees) from the previous day, below 3 degrees Celsius and 3 degrees lower than the average temperature.

 

From the afternoon of the 12th, the wind will intensify and the cold will feel worse.

 

Strong winds of more than 70km per hour (90km per hour for mountainous areas) are expected to be announced from the afternoon of the 12th, especially on the coast and mountainous areas, and the instantaneous wind speed will reach more than 55km per hour.

 

In Seoul, the lowest temperature in the morning of the 13th will be minus 3 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature during the day will be 7 degrees Celsius.

 

The morning temperature will drop to minus 7 degrees Celsius, and the afternoon temperature will stop at 6 degrees Celsius.

 

The lowest and highest temperatures expected in other major cities are -2 degrees Celsius in Incheon (feeling temperature -9 degrees Celsius), -5 degrees Celsius (2 degrees Celsius), -3 degrees Celsius in Daejeon (zero 6 degrees Celsius), -10 degrees Celsius in Gwangju (zero 3 degrees Celsius), -1 degrees Celsius in Daegu (zero 5 degrees Celsius), -11 degrees Celsius in Ulsan (zero 2 degrees Celsius), and -1 degrees in Busan (zero degrees Celsius).

 

As of 9:20 a.m. on the 12th, it is raining in most areas except Yeongnam.

 

Rain is falling mainly in the western region, and the precipitation zone will gradually expand to the east, and then gradually stop from the west coast in the late afternoon.

 

In line with the drop in temperature from the afternoon, the northeastern part of Gyeonggi-do, inland part of Gangwon-do, northern Chungcheongbuk-do, and northeastern part of Gyeongsangbuk-do will accumulate with snow instead of rain from night.

Snow can also accumulate in mountains with high altitude (over 1,000m) in other regions.

 

Estimated precipitation is 5-20 mm.

 

The amount of snowfall is expected to be less than 1cm in Gangwon-do, Jeju-do (over 1,500m above sea level), Ulleung-do, and Dokdo-do, and less than 1cm in northeastern Gyeonggi-do, northern Gangwon-do, northern Chungcheongbuk-do, and northeastern Gyeongsangbuk-do.
