A DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service, or network by overwhelming it with a flood of internet traffic.

This flood of traffic typically originates from multiple sources, making it difficult to stop by simply blocking a single IP address.

The goal of a DDoS attack is to render the target inaccessible to its intended users, causing disruption or downtime in services. These DDoS attacks are shaking up the domestic gaming industry.

On February 25th, during a live broadcast of a League of Legends (LoL) match in the domestic esports league LCK, it was interrupted due to a DDoS attack.

Normally, matches that would have ended within about two hours took a whopping 6 hours and 46 minutes due to the interruption occurring eight times.

Such hacking attacks recurred during other matches as well.

Due to frequent disruptions caused by DDoS hacking, LCK shifted from live broadcasts to recorded broadcasts, and as of the 13th, matches are being conducted without spectators.

Despite ongoing DDoS attacks targeting the LCK at LoL Park, thanks to the introduction of offline servers and enhanced security measures for broadcasting systems, LCK matches have proceeded smoothly without major issues during real-time transitions.

On the 14th, the LCK matches, which were targeted by DDoS attacks, proceeded without any disruptions.

Following the announcement by LCK, they transitioned players' game servers to offline mode to ensure no interruptions from external attacks.

Additionally, the broadcasting system at LoL Park was designed to operate without hindrance even in the face of DDoS attacks.

Most of the LoL Park network returned to normalcy about an hour and a half after the commencement of the DDoS attacks.

Despite maintaining stable league operations amid DDoS attacks, LCK remains vigilant.

LCK Secretary-General Lee Jung-hoon stated in a recent statement that while they have established a stable gaming environment by introducing offline servers at LoL Park, they recognize the need for external connections for tournament broadcasting.

Therefore, they are committed to continuous security measures, monitoring, and flexible responses.

'How misguided must one's values be to engage in socially harmful behavior without hesitation?'

These are the words of 'Faker,' the superstar of League of Legends (LoL), targeting the DDoS attackers.

People all hope that means to defend against such hacking attacks will emerge as soon as possible.
