Tomorrow, Incheon will be bustling with a "buzzing" atmosphere as 3,000 tourists from 10 different countries gather for a chicken and beer party, known as "McGang Party." It will be the largest gathering of foreign tourists since the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the 15th, Incheon Metropolitan City and Incheon Tourism Organization announced that they will host the "1883 Incheon McGang Party" at the front yard of the Sangsang Platform (Nehang 8th Dock Parking Lot).

Sangsang Platform is a remodeled complex cultural facility that was once the largest waste warehouse in Asia, located in Incheon Harbor.

The McGang Party will be attended by around 3,000 tourists from 10 countries, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the United States, and Russia.

 

They will enjoy Incheon's representative local food, "Gaehang Maekju" (a type of beer) and "Sinp'o Market Dakgangjeong" (crispy chicken), accompanied by 1,400 servings of dakgangjeong, 3,000 cans of beer, and 3,000 bottles of Incheon Haneulsoo (a local alcoholic beverage).

This event was planned by the Incheon Tourism Organization and successfully attracted foreign tourists through more than 30 domestic travel agencies.

 

Among them, around 2,000 tourists from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia will stay for two nights or more, exploring various areas in Incheon, such as Sorae Port, Yeongjong Island, and Wolmido.

The McGang Party will also feature performances representing Korea, including Bupyeong Pungmul Pae (traditional percussion music), martial arts demonstrations, fusion traditional music, as well as performances from rock bands, popera, and K-pop, covering a wide range of genres.

The city plans to introduce local foods such as Incheon's regional beer and Sinp'o Market's dakgangjeong to the tourists and encourage them to visit nearby tourist attractions like Sinp'o Market and the Port of Incheon.

 

 

The city expects the McGang Party to have significant economic ripple effects, including an estimated production inducement of 11.8 billion KRW, income inducement of 2.7 billion KRW, employment inducement of 103 people, and job creation for 68 individuals.

Lee Haeng-suk, the Deputy Mayor of the Incheon Metropolitan City's Department of Culture and Welfare, stated, "Incheon, which has played a leading role in the influx of global culture and the promotion of reform and openness since the opening of Incheon Port in 1883, will lead the recovery of the tourism market and contribute to revitalizing the downtown economy through this event."

This is the first time that Incheon has attracted such a large number of foreign tourists since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

 

 

 

In 2016, Incheon garnered national attention with a "Chicken and Beer Party" held for over 4,500 employees of the Chinese Aolan Group.

 

The event featured 3,000 chickens and 4,500 cans of 500 ml beer, amounting to a total of 2.25 million ml of beer.

 

If the beer cans were stacked, they would reach a height of 765 meters, which is 2.5 times the height of Songdo Northeast Asia Trade Tower (306 meters) and 1.6 times the height of Mt. Manisan in Ganghwa Island (469 meters).
