May 15th is both King Sejong's birthday and Teacher's Day.
Following last year's event, the city has prepared this year's commemorative event with the aim of widely promoting the spirit and achievements of King Sejong as the capital of Hangul culture.
This year, the commemoration event for King Sejong's ascension, marking the 627th anniversary, unfolds grandly in Sejong, the capital of Hangul culture.
Sejong City announced on the 9th that the 'King Sejong's Ascension Anniversary Celebration' will be held in Hansoldong Hangul Love Street on the 15th.
This year, the city plans to provide citizens visiting the event venue with an opportunity to experience and share the beauty of Hangul culture and art.
Various performances, exhibitions, and Hangul culture experience programs that people of all ages can enjoy will be presented, with the participation of Korea University Sejong Korean Culture Institute and Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation.
Specific events include performances on Sejong Culture Road, an art exhibition featuring the names of living things in Hangul, exhibitions on King Sejong's achievements and quotations, writing Hangul letters to King Sejong by hand, a book exchange market, decorating eco-friendly Hangul bags, making beautiful handwriting bookmarks, and taking memorable photos of life.
Moreover, The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced today (the 9th) that various Korean language-related events will be held nationwide throughout May to commemorate 'King Sejong's Ascension Day.'
The National Institute of the Korean Language (NIKL) has signed a business agreement with Naver and will conduct the 'Wise Use of Our Language - Challenge: Change Foreign Languages!' campaign from the 13th to the 26th through Naver's web platform, the NIKL website, and its YouTube channel.
The campaign will call for submissions of short videos featuring activities to refine foreign words and loanwords into Korean, and will select outstanding works.
