The 28th Muju Firefly Festival, themed "A Healing Journey to the Nature City Muju," is being held across Muju County, including the Deungnamu Stadium, until September 8.

The festival features environmental exploration programs such as the "Firefly Mystery Exploration," experiential sales programs like "Namdaecheon Life+," cultural and artistic programs including "Bunam Baesobaemudi Gutnori," and nighttime events such as the "Bandi Light Festival."

Since its debut in 1997 with the theme "The Land of Nature, Muju," the Muju Firefly Festival has gained significant recognition, being designated as an excellent festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism for ten consecutive years, a top festival for five consecutive years, a representative festival of Jeonbuk Special Autonomous Province for two consecutive years, and selected as a 2024 Pinnacle Award winner in the ecotourism category, solidifying its status as a global festival.

The event kicked off at 5:30 PM with pre-ceremony performances by the Muju County Taekwondo Demonstration Team and the Shaolin Martial Arts Team from Dengfeng City, China. Following these performances, there was an entrance parade and an opening ceremony, accompanied by a spectacular "Bandi Light Festival," which featured a blend of Anseong Nakhwa Nori (a traditional fireworks display), a drone show, fireworks, a laser show, and the Starlight Bridge.

Especially popular is the "Firefly Mystery Exploration," where participants directly visit the firefly habitats.

As the night air cools, the number of fireflies appearing has increased, drawing over 2,400 visitors.

Due to its popularity, participation in this program is only possible with prior reservations.

In addition, the themed pavilion, where visitors can see live fireflies even during the day, and the media art exhibition hall, which showcases the clean nature of Muju where fireflies thrive and depicts the life cycle of fireflies through videos, have also gained popularity.

Over the past weekend, more than 2,500 people visited these attractions, along with the festival exhibition hall, which provides a comprehensive view of the festival's history.
